A Falls Church man was found guilty Monday of maliciously wounding a Centreville cyclist in a May road rage dispute.
Milad Attai, 26, received the verdict on the charge of malicious wounding and use of a firearm. The incident occurred on May 28, when Baffour Frimpong, 26, was riding his e-bike along West Ox Road in Centreville. Court records indicate that a driver in a Toyota cut Frimpong off. Attai exited the vehicle and discharged one shot into the air and two shots at Frimpong. Frimpong was struck in the diaphragm while attempting to flee the scene.
Investigators identified Attai using video from a nearby home surveillance camera. Bullet casings recovered at the scene matched the firearm Attai was carrying at the time of his arrest.
Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano stated that the unprovoked shooting demonstrated that Attai posed a danger to the community. Descano added that the outcome ensures Attai will not possess a gun in the future and will face punishment for the harm caused.
Attai agreed to plead guilty to two felonies as part of the agreement. A lifetime protective order will be entered for Frimpong. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2027. Attai faces up to 20 years in prison for the malicious wounding charge and three years for the firearm offense.
