A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a shooting near Florida A&M University's football stadium in Tallahassee that left 12 people injured, including six minors, the Tallahassee Police Department said.

Police said the teen was taken into custody Sunday. He faces 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a delinquent. The department said its investigation is still active and that additional arrests could follow.

The gunfire broke out at about 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, near Perry and Manatee streets, not far from FAMU's Bragg Memorial Stadium. It happened the same night the university hosted its homecoming game against the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions, which FAMU lost 31-28. Police have not established any link between the shooting and either the university or the game.

Early findings suggest a fight took place before the shots were fired. Detectives believe the violence grew out of a dispute among people who knew one another. Police said that at this stage, none of the victims appear to have been the intended targets.

Eleven people were shot, and a twelfth person hurt an ankle while running from the gunfire. Police first reported that three victims had serious injuries and that eight others were believed to have injuries that were not life-threatening. The youngest victim was 11 years old, and at least one victim was a FAMU student.

In a Sunday morning update, police said five victims had been released from the hospital while six remained hospitalized, one of them in critical condition. Officers rushed to help the wounded right after the shooting, before the scene had been fully secured, according to the department.

Police Chief Lawrence Revell called the arrest an important step but said the work is not finished. "What should have been a weekend of celebration in our community instead became a night of fear and violence for the victims and their families," Revell said. "While this arrest marks a significant step forward, our work is far from over. We remain committed to holding those responsible accountable and getting answers for every family impacted by this tragedy."

Several questions remain unanswered. Investigators have not released further details about what led to the altercation, and authorities have not said how the teen obtained the firearm. Detectives continue to review evidence and pursue leads. The department thanked community members for tips, photos, videos and other digital evidence that it said have helped move the case forward.

Anyone with information is asked to call the department's dedicated tip line at 850-891-4610. People who have photos, videos or other digital evidence can also send them through the department's online evidence submission portal.
